Swimming Merit Badge - May 3rd

We will be having a Swimming Merit Badge water session at Cub Run Recreation Center on Saturday May 3rd. It will start at noon and run approximately 4 hours. We have not scheduled the classroom session yet.

The cost for the session will be $10 and will include general admission to the recreation center so after the program the scouts will be able to enjoy the water slides.

Remember the swimming merit badge is required for the upcoming white water rafting trip!

[SullyDist] Eagle Scout project opportunities

To whom it may concern,

My name is Christie Rankin and I''m the Program Director for Golden Dreams Therapeutic Riding Center in Middleburg, VA. Golden Dreams is a not for profit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding lessons and horsemanship activities to childen and adults with disabilities. We also offer disability awareness programs and field trips to church and school groups. Golden Dreams began in May of 2007 and is located on 12 acres with a 5 stall barn.

We currently have a few projects suitable for Eagle Scouts to construct. One is to help us construct two to three run in shelters for our horses. One site has already been padded and four posts have been erected.

Troop Volunteer Needed!! National Jamboree 2010

We are still looking for someone to step up to coordinate the Jamboree for our troop!! The BSA National Jamboree in 2010 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of scouting in the USA. You will be involved with collecting and conveying information to the scouts to help build their interest in attending. Please consider contacting Mr. Jim Hunter, Mr. John Hanyok, any Assistant Scoutmaster or any committee member.

New Adult Training

On-line training is available for all adults who will be involved with activities and/or trips with the troop. Please take the time to complete this training: �Boy Scout Leader Fast Start� takes approximately one hour to complete. Five of our leaders: Andrew Allan, Kent Ford, Tony Davis, Kirk Treakle and Jeff Clark will be participating in a week end training session: Leader Specific Training for Scoutmasters.

Camp Snyder Merit Badge Days

Scouts, you have another opportunity to work on a merit badge right in our own back yard. This is not a troop event � sign up on your own. The next merit badge day is on June 7, 2008.

Spring Break Backpacking!

I am looking for a few good scouts (and parents) to join me, Mr. Hanyok, and Col. Rayermann on a backpacking adventure over spring break. We will be backpacking the Appalachian Trail for 5 days and will cover nearly 40 miles. We will be walking through 3 states and that is only on the first day. We will visit the first Washington Monument, cross over Interstate 70 on a footbridge, and end up within 6 miles of Pennsylvania.

Dates: Saturday, March 15 to Wednesday, March 19, 2008

We are also looking for volunteers to drive us to the starting and finishing points on the trail. This event will satisfy the most difficult requirement for backpacking merit badge. If you are interested in attending this event, please email me at jimhunter@cubrunbuilders.com.

Troop 1548 Venture Assistant Scoutmaster

Attention Sea Base 2008 Trekkers

We will be meeting to go over plans of the trek on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 2PM for about 2 hours.The site of this meeting is yet to be determined. Another notice will be sent out to inform you of the location. This is an important meeting! We will be electing Crew Chiefs in the three Crews. We will be providing information on our schedule. We will be selecting a design for our Troop Sea Base T Shirt. We will be providing information about the medical forms. We will give you information about what to bring and what to expect. You will be introduced to the merit badges that will be available and the counselors that will be teaching them. Refreshments will be served. Please put this date on your calendar and make plans to attend. We welcome all parents to join us at this important meeting.

March News Letter

USS CONSTELLATION & TANEY

We had great weather for the trip up to Baltimore. A really large group of our scouts were able to visit Ft. McHenry, the USS Constellation and the Taney. I’m sure all the guys loved waking up in the middle of the night for watch duty!

BACKPACKING TRIP

Date: March 24-26, 2006

Location: Appalachian Trail between I-66 and Route 50 (approximately 17 miles). Buddy system for cooking and tenting. Will qualify for one of the three 15 mile backpacking trips for backpacking merit badge. Meet at Rocky Run Middle School at 4:30 on Friday.

EAGLE SCOUT CANDIDATES

We have three Eagle scout candidates (Patrick Hall, Keenan Landry, and Evan Nelson) who will be ready on Wed., March 29, 2006 to present their Eagle scout projects to the troop committee for discussion. Committee members and all parents are invited to join the discussion beginning at 6:30. The discussions will occur before and during the regular troop meeting in order to finish with all three scouts.

HARGRAVE CAMPOREE

We will all meet at Rocky Run Middle school on Friday March 31st at 4:00pm. Scouts, please be sure you have reviewed the pre-requisites for the merit badges you have chosen to take and have completed them before the camporee weekend. The pool is open to all scouts on Saturday so bring your swim gear.

UPCOMING EVENTS

* March 24-26th – backpacking.

March 31-April 2nd – Hargrave Camporee.

*April 22nd – 10 mile hike at Old Rag.

*These trips are planned as part of the preparation for Alaska 2006 but are also open to the troop. Obtain approval from Mr. Jim Hunter.
